WHY AATSP?
The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese has served educators and students for more than ninety years! We offer the following opportunities for your professional development .
 Annual Conference: More than 200 sessions, workshops, e-posters and invited speakers that will enhance your cultural, literary, and professional knowledge. Typically held in July at locations rich in Latin American and Luso-Brazilian culture and influence.
 Scholarships & Awards for Teachers and Members:
o Summer Study Abroad Program: Tuition and $750 Travel stipend to Costa Rica, Mexico, Spain, and South America
o Robert G. Mead, Jr. Travel and Study/Research Award: $1,000.00
o First-Time Attendee Travel Stipend for the Annual Conference: $500.00
o Awards: Recognizing outstanding teaching at every teaching level, leadership, service, publishing, and chapter activities

 AATSP Chapters: Your AATSP membership includes automatic enrollment into your local chapter. Stay in touch with members near you! We want you to join our the Ohio-Buckeye Chapter!
 Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH): an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and Portuguese. Offering opportunities for student activities, publishing, competitive scholarship and travel. Currently there are over 2,000 national and international chapters.
 Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad (SHA): a service learning organization with benefits for middle/junior high students enrolled in Spanish and Portuguese. A great way to get your students involved!
 National Portuguese Examinations: an assessment and competition for students in grades 7-12 enrolled in Portuguese classes.
 National Spanish Examinations: an online, standardized assessment tool and competition given by more than 3000 teachers throughout the United States to measure proficiency and achievement of students at appropriate levels. Students compete for prizes and travel scholarships.
 Hispania: the official journal of the AATSP is published quarterly and features articles on language, literature, theoretical and applied linguistics, cultural studies as well as book/media reviews. You must be a member to publish in Hispania.
 Poster Contest: Students create themed posters to promote the study of Spanish and Portuguese, compete for prizes, and are recognized for their participation.
 Enlace Online Newsletter: Published four times a year, it contains articles and resources of interest to members.
 The Portuguese Newsletter: Published in the spring and fall, it features items of interest about the Luso-Brazilian world.
